Incanto Parquet Installation Manual: From Project to Completion

Welcome This Incanto Parquet Installation Manual is intended to provide our clients with a comprehensive guide, ensuring an understanding of the technical aspects that contribute to the superior quality of both our product and its installation.

1. Installation Surfaces Your Incanto parquet flooring deserves a perfect foundation, often referred to as the installation surface. This surface supports the flooring and evenly distributes the weight it bears. It is critical that this base can handle various stresses, from the natural movement of the wood due to humidity and temperature fluctuations to the everyday load it carries.

Substructure Layers Beneath the installation surface, a compensatory layer usually exists for accommodating various systems. Even further below lies the main load-bearing stratum, crucial for structural integrity.

Parquet Installation Methods Three prevalent techniques are utilized for parquet flooring installation:

  • Glued Installation: Wood strips are adhered to the installation surface with a strong adhesive.

  • Nailed/Screwed Installation: The wooden elements are mechanically fastened to the surface.

  • Floating Installation: Wood strips rest on the installation surface without being directly affixed.

Considerations for Installation Surfaces When preparing for installation, the design and construction should be compatible with the chosen installation method, taking into account the intended room use, site conditions, material specifications, and the scheduled timing for the installation.

Types of Installation Surfaces

  • Cement Screeds

  • Anhydrite-Based Screeds

  • Wooden Panels and Products

  • Pre-existing Floors

2. 'Traditional' Cement Screed The standard cement screed, with a usual thickness between 3 to 8 cm, consists of a cement-based mix and may include a steel mesh for additional support. Various screed types, such as adherent or floating, cater to different installation needs, including heating and cooling.

Perimeter Joints Essential to ensure separation from the walls, perimeter joints accommodate the screed's expansion and contraction.

Nailed/Screwed Installation Requirements This method demands a thicker screed, with laths or joists incorporated for attachment. The orientation of these must be considered, as they should run perpendicular to the direction of the wood strips.

3. Verifying Cement Screed Conditions Quality assurance falls to the construction manager, who must verify the screed's uniformity, resistance, absence of cracks, and protection against heat and moisture.

Installer Responsibilities The installer is responsible for ensuring the screed’s mechanical resistance, moisture content, levelness, and cleanliness before beginning the installation process, unless otherwise agreed upon.

4. Anhydrite-Based Screeds Lighter and quicker to dry, anhydrite-based screeds must be properly treated before any glued installations to ensure a proper bond.

5. Panels and Wood Products When structural load or additional moisture are concerns, wood panels offer a lightweight alternative and are suitable for various types of installations, always with a vapor barrier placed underneath.

6. Pre-existing Installation Floors In scenarios where the installation occurs over an existing floor, considerations for finished dimensions and compatibility must be addressed.

Important Reminders! Wooden strips maintain stability in controlled climates, specifically at 20±5°C with humidity between 45% and 60%. These conditions should be consistent before and after installation.

7. Preliminary Checks for Installation Before proceeding with the installation, ensure that environmental and site conditions are appropriate, with all construction and preparatory work completed, and the substrate is ready and suitable for installation.

8. On-Site Storage and Opening of Packaging Store wooden elements in their original packaging, in a dry, clean environment. Follow Incanto's specific instructions for opening packages to ensure color uniformity across the flooring.

9. The Installation Choosing an installation pattern should reflect the size and style of the wooden elements. Whether it’s a traditional strip or an intricate mosaic, the installation will add a touch of elegance to your space.

10. General Criteria for Execution While there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to the direction of laying your parquet, remember to leave room for expansion around the perimeter, allowing the wood to move naturally.

11. Types of Laying Floating, gluing, and nailing/screwing are the main installation methods available. Choose the one that best fits your structural needs and aesthetic preferences.

12. Installation on Heating Screeds Ensure that your underfloor heating screeds have the correct moisture levels and have undergone a proper heating cycle prior to installation.

13. Maintenance of Varnished Flooring Routine maintenance is key. Simple steps like placing a doormat, regular dusting, and using specific wooden floor cleaners can significantly extend the life of your flooring.
